3,000 remember Hiroshima
More than 3,000 people held a march for peace today on the 60th anniversary of the atomic bombing of Hiroshima which killed more than 140,000 in 1945.
It was the first atomic bomb ever detonated in military action and was followed by the second three days later that reduced another Japanese city, Nagasaki, to ashes.
The four-kilometre march began at Padang Merbok at 8.30am and wound its way to Dataran Merdeka before ending at Taman Tasik Perdana.
Marchers carried two rep- licas of the bomb dropped on Hiroshima and placards and posters denouncing the use of nuclear bombs in war.
Local artistes performed at a peace concert at the open-air theatre in Taman Tasik Perdana.
The march was jointly organised by the Malaysian People’s Alliance for Peace (Aman Malaysia) and the Malaysian Medical Association Physicians for the Prevention of Nuclear War
