Umno Youth slams attack on town in Lebanon

KUALA LUMPUR: Umno Youth condemns the Israeli attack on the southern Lebanese town of Qana that has killed more than 60 civilians.

Its international bureau chairman Datuk Mukhriz Mahathir described the attacks as “a savage act of state terrorism” by Israel and called on the world community to command Israel to stop destroying Lebanon immediately.

“This is a blatant disregard for international law by Israel, which has now killed hundreds of civilians in the region in the past three weeks with the support of the US and its warmongering allies,” he said.

“The leaders who sanctioned and defended these attacks on women and children are war criminals, who need to be put on trial and punished according to international laws.”

He said it was frustrating that the Security Council has repeatedly failed to call for a ceasefire in the region because the United States continuously vetoed it.

Mukhriz called on the Organisation of the Islamic Conference (OIC), which will hold an emergency meeting on Thursday, to criminalise war.

He also urged the United Nations, the OIC and the Non-Aligned Movement to address the real issues in the escalating situation without prejudice or undue pressure.
